Transportation Secretary Warns of Shutdown-Related Air Travel Disruptions

A government shutdown would mean unpaid TSA and air traffic controllers.

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg warned that America’s already strained airports will be impacted by a government shutdown.

Congress has yet to approve either a new budget to renew the federal government’s funding or a continuing resolution to implement short-term government funding. Secretary Buttigieg said that once funding for President Biden’s administration runs out on October 1, staffing shortages throughout the travel sector will be unsupported by the Department of Transportation.

“From the first day, air traffic controllers would no longer be paid,” Secretary Buttigieg said. “TSA screeners would no longer be paid. Nothing good comes of that, for them or for the system.”

“Remember, this system is straining to keep up with the demand in terms of staffing,” the transportation secretary continued. “Especially when it comes to transportation, the consequences would be disruptive and dangerous.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Secretary Buttigieg as he heads the Transportation Department.
  • For TSA and air traffic controllers as the possible government shutdown nears.
